Sculpt along normals

Displace the brush region along its sampled surface normal. The surrounding region stays fixed.

Before you start

Open Sculpting on a mesh with adequate density. The brush used for this operation is labeled Normal in the current Show3D interface.

Use the operation

Raise or push back a local region using the brush area’s normal direction.

  1. Choose Normal in the brush selector.
  2. Set a low intensity, then make a short stroke over the region to raise.
  3. Enable Invert to reverse the displacement. Inspect from a side view so you can judge the height change.

Controls and choices

ControlsWhat changes
Normal directionThe brush displaces the affected region along an averaged local normal. It is not a uniform thickness or shell-generation operation.
Size and intensitySize sets the working area and intensity sets the strength. Start with a region wider than a single sparse polygon.
InvertReverses the displacement so the same brush can push inward. Inspect thin walls before making repeated inward strokes.

Check the result

Confirm the height and transition match your intent and that the surface does not cross a nearby wall. Use Clay for a different buildup effect or Flatten to reduce unevenness.
