  4. Revolve a profile

Revolve a profile

Revolve a profile around an axis to make a rotational form. The chosen profile includes wall thickness and a rim.

Before you start

Connect Codex to Show3D and describe a shape with rotational symmetry, such as a vase, knob, or turned leg. Lathe generation currently uses scene planning.

Use the operation

Revolve a radius-and-height profile to build a rotationally symmetric mesh.

  1. Describe the profile from bottom to top, including the widest points, neck, and rim.
  2. Ask Codex to generate a lathe mesh around its vertical profile axis, with a full revolution or a specified angular section.
  3. Inspect the result’s top, bottom, and seam. Specify an inner wall and base when a hollow vessel needs actual thickness.

Controls and choices

ControlsWhat changes
Radius and heightThe generator’s profile pairs describe radius and Y height. A negative radius or a self-crossing profile is unsuitable.
Segments and sweepMore radial segments smooth the silhouette. A partial angular sweep creates a section whose exposed boundaries need inspection.
Wall thicknessA single outer profile does not by itself describe a hollow vessel’s inner wall. Include that wall in the requested geometry.

Concept illustration. The diagrams explain the operation. Your result depends on the starting geometry and settings.

Check the result

Check the rim, base closure, wall thickness, and rotational seam. Add only enough segments for the intended use, then refine the mesh directly if needed.
