Extrude a profile
Extend a closed two-dimensional profile through a depth. The side walls follow the outline and caps close its ends.
Before you start
Connect Codex to Show3D. Profile extrusion is available through scene planning; the current interface has no dedicated profile-extrusion panel.
Use the operation
Turn a flat outline into a solid with a specified depth, such as a plate or bracket.
- Describe the outline, dimensions, and any holes. Ask Codex to use a closed planar contour and place holes fully inside it.
- Specify the extrusion depth and whether edges should be beveled, for example: “Create a rectangular mounting plate with two holes and a small edge bevel.”
- Inspect the generated mesh in Show3D, then ask for a dimension change or continue with direct mesh editing.
Controls and choices
| Controls | What changes |
|---|---|
| Contour and holes | Use a simple non-self-intersecting outline. Holes must not cross the outline or each other. |
| Depth | Defines the distance through the extrusion. State object placement and orientation separately so the result sits correctly in the scene. |
| Bevel | Small bevels soften edges. Excessive bevel size can overlap narrow features or close small holes. |

A solid profile extrusion
Check the result
Inspect the silhouette, hole openings, depth, and bevels. The output is editable geometry; do not assume a permanent profile-history panel remains after generation.
