Bevel

Cut back the four vertical edges to create narrow faces. This single-segment bevel changes the geometry of each corner.

Before you start

Select an editable mesh, enter mesh edit mode, and select the edges or vertices you want to bevel. The Bevel tool becomes available for a supported selection.

Make a bevel

Start with a small amount so you can see how each corner changes.

  1. Select the vertical edges of a box, then activate Bevel in the modeling toolbar.
  2. Adjust the initial bevel preview. Use the Bevel panel to refine the amount and segment count.
  3. Use one segment for a chamfer. Increase segments for a rounder transition.
  4. Inspect nearby edges for overlap before accepting the result. Undo if you need to restore the original mesh.

Controls that matter

The current panel exposes amount, segments, and profile controls. Start with the amount and segment count before changing the profile.

Width / PercentHow far the new boundary sits from the original edge. Reduce it if nearby features collide.
Type: Offset / PercentChoose offset distance or percentage. The same numeric value has a different meaning in each mode.
SegmentsOne segment creates a flat chamfer; additional segments add geometry to the transition.
ShapeAdjusts the cross-section profile of a multi-segment bevel.

Example: soften the corners of a box

The illustration cuts back the vertical edges and adds narrow faces. The large side faces remain. This is a change to geometry; smooth shading alone would leave the sharp silhouette.

Check the result

Inspect the silhouette, corner intersections, and face shading from more than one angle. If Bevel is unavailable, check the edit mode and selection. If the preview becomes invalid, reduce the amount or simplify the selection before continuing.
