Extrude

Move the selected face outward and connect it to the existing boundary with new side faces. The original base stays fixed.

Before you start

Select an editable mesh, enter Mesh Edit, and choose Face Select. Select the face or connected face region that should extend. Start with a simple region so you can inspect the new side walls.

Use the operation

Extend a face into a connected volume.

  1. Open the face context menu and choose Extrude, or press E with the modeling viewport focused.
  2. Move the new selection to give the extrusion a visible length. Extrude starts a topology change and a move together.
  3. Choose Extrude Along Normals when the selected surface should offset along its normals rather than move as one translated region.
  4. Confirm the result, then inspect the connection to the original mesh from another view.

Selected regionDetermines which faces extend and which edges form the extrusion boundary.
Movement directionControls the extension. A negative move can push the new region into the source.

Check the result

Look for connected side faces, unintended internal overlap, and a consistent wall shape. If the tool appears to do nothing, check selection mode and whether the new region still overlaps its start. Use Undo to remove an unwanted extrusion before repeating it.
