Delete faces
Remove the selected face and expose an opening. The context determines whether associated edges or vertices are also removed.
Before you start
Enter Edit Mode and select only the components to remove. Deleting a vertex also affects faces and edges that depend on it.
Use the operation
Remove geometry to open a surface or discard an unwanted region.
- Choose Vertex, Edge, or Face Select and inspect the full selection, including any selection made through the mesh.
- Press X to open Delete, then choose Vertices, Edges, Only Faces, or Faces according to what should remain.
- Inspect the resulting opening and remaining loose geometry. Undo if the deletion removed supporting geometry you intended to keep.
Controls and choices
| Controls | What changes |
|---|---|
| Only Faces | Removes the selected faces while keeping their edges and vertices available for rebuilding. |
| Faces | Removes the face region with the operation’s associated cleanup. Check boundary geometry before continuing. |
| Dissolve | Choose Dissolve when you want to simplify eligible internal topology while keeping a surface instead of making a hole. |

Before
A selected surface patch
After
An opening
Check the result
The gap should match your intended cutout. Unwanted holes usually mean the selection or deletion type was too broad; undo and choose a narrower option.
