Slide a vertex
Move a selected vertex along an existing connected edge. This constrained edit differs from a free move.
Before you start
Connect Codex to Show3D and identify the mesh and vertex to adjust. This operation currently uses the agent’s mesh-edit actions rather than a dedicated interface tool.
Use the operation
Reposition a vertex toward a specified neighboring vertex or direction while keeping its connections.
- Ask Codex to inspect the mesh topology and identify both the source vertex and intended neighbor.
- Describe a small movement, for example: “Slide this corner 20% toward the next vertex on the rim, keeping the other corners fixed.”
- Inspect the resulting face shapes. If topology changed since inspection, have Codex inspect again before the next edit.
Controls and choices
| Controls | What changes |
|---|---|
| Target | At a vertex with several connected edges, specify which neighboring vertex or direction to follow. The operation should not guess the intended branch. |
| Factor | 0.2 moves one fifth of the distance to the chosen target. Reaching the neighbor’s position does not automatically weld the two vertices. |
| Merge when needed | Use Merge when the goal is to combine vertices topologically; use Slide to adjust spacing while retaining distinct vertices. |

Check the result
Check that the adjacent faces remain usable and the intended edge spacing improves. Reduce the movement if a face becomes too narrow or folds.
