Slide an edge

Move an edge along existing adjacent topology. The outer boundary stays fixed while the spacing of faces changes.

Before you start

Connect Codex to the current Show3D scene. Edge Slide is currently exposed through the agent’s mesh-edit actions; there is no dedicated hands-on Slide control in the current interface.

Use the operation

Move an edge toward a neighboring part of its surface without adding a new loop.

  1. Identify the mesh and the edge or loop to move. Ask Codex to inspect its current topology and enter Mesh Edit Mode.
  2. Describe the neighboring side and a modest fraction, for example: “Slide this support edge one quarter of the way toward the adjacent outer edge.”
  3. Have Codex use the inspected edge indices and current topology revision. Inspect the result in Show3D before requesting another change.

Controls and choices

ControlsWhat changes
FactorA fraction between 0 and 1 moves toward the chosen target; 0.25 is one quarter of the distance. Larger or negative values can extend beyond the intended strip.
Side or directionThe default edge path uses a neighboring face with at least four corners. Ambiguous topology needs an explicit side or direction.
Existing topologySlide changes positions. It does not add edges, and conflicting targets on connected edges require a more specific selection.

Check the result

Compare loop spacing and check for crossed edges or collapsed faces. Ask Codex to undo and reduce the factor if the supporting topology folds.
