Loop cut

Insert a connected edge loop through the quad faces. The surface shape stays fixed while topology gains another control row.

Before you start

Enter mesh edit mode and locate a connected band of quad faces. Loop Cut follows this topology; triangles and irregular junctions can stop the route.

Use the operation

Add a control row while keeping the current surface shape.

  1. Start Loop Cut from the modeling toolbar or the edge context menu.
  2. Point at the quad strip and inspect the proposed cut path before placing it.
  3. Use the Loop Cut panel to set Cuts and the position factor. Start with a single cut near the middle.
  4. Accept the result and inspect the new edges from another view.

Controls and choices

ControlsWhat changes
CutsThe current panel offers 1–20 cuts. More cuts increase topology density across the strip.
Position factorMoves the cut between opposite sides. Avoid placing it directly on an existing boundary.
Quad flowDetermines where the connected route continues and where it stops.

Check the result

The new loop should follow the intended strip without changing the outer silhouette. If the path stops, inspect its next face and vertex junction. Use Knife for a deliberately placed path that does not follow a regular quad strip.
