Snap to a grid
Use a grid target to place geometry precisely. Enabling snapping prepares a transform; it does not move an object by itself.
Before you start
Select the geometry to move and open Transform Mode. Snapping affects a subsequent transform; turning it on does not relocate the current selection by itself.
Use the operation
Place a part using a grid or a visible geometry target.
- Enable Snap in Transform Mode. The menu displays Shift+Tab for toggling snapping.
- Choose Grid under Snap To for grid placement. Choose Vertex, Edge, or Face when matching another part's geometry.
- Choose Closest or Origin as the snap base according to the point that should meet the target.
- Move the selection toward the target and inspect the final contact from another view.
Controls and choices
| Controls | What changes |
|---|---|
| Snap targets | More than one target type can be enabled. Keep the set narrow when nearby geometry makes the intended target ambiguous. |
| Snap base | Origin aligns the object's origin; Closest uses a nearby point. Matching an origin does not guarantee matching an outer surface. |
| Transform axis | An axis constraint can prevent movement in other directions needed to reach a target. |

Check the result
Inspect actual geometry contact, not only the gizmo position. If the wrong point snaps, change the target set or snap base. If nothing moves, perform a move after enabling Snap and check that the object or its parent is not locked.
